Surrender Mortgage joint life policy

Options
Hi

My ex-husband and I divorce 1998 , I took over the mortgage
and he signed and agree but Barclay still wanted his name stay with the mortgage loan .
The mortgage came with a joint life policy and I paid off the mortgage last year ,I was expect the life policy matured itself ,I got told I need to surrender the policy but my ex he moved oversea since ,I have no way to contact him .
so how can I surrender the life policy without his signature ,
the paperwork he signed at 1998 will that proof anything but
I'm not sure the solicitor I used is still around .

Please advice !! Thank you very much !!

If it's a straightforward policy with no cash in value then just stop paying the premiums.

Is it an endowment or a term assurance? If the latter, as Leon says, just stop paying the premiums.

You need to ask the insurer for its procedure in such circumstances. Normally, an equity of redemption would be completed at the time of divorce to resolve this, rather than leaving it until now.

When you divorced, did the solicitor assign the policy to you? (they should have)

Ask the insurer if the policy was assigned following your divorce.

If not, then return to your solicitor and ask them why it wasnt assigned. If it was a mistake, then the solicitor may carry out the legal work required to get the policy sorted now.
