Nice smelling candles similar to Jo Malone

I love candles and yesterday bought a Jo Malone one for £40. I was expecting the room to be filled with a lovely scent etc. etc. Now it came beautifully packaged, a silver lid, bows, a box, and matches and a free sample. It certainly smells nice but not £40 nice!

apart from yankee candles, which make me feel a bit sick, can anyone recommend a pretty decent candle range that has a nice smell to it/them?

If you like chocolate, these look and smell wonderful: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chocolate-Candles-Set-Of-3/dp/B002FUQUTS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406742144&sr=8-1&keywords=chocolate+candles

Rituals (discovered them when All Boxed Up ran their offer earlier this year) do candles and they smell fab. Cheaper than Jo Malone e.g. http://www.amazon.co.uk/RITUALS-Scented-Candle-Jasmine-Dream/dp/B009OXHKPM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1406742194&sr=8-1&keywords=rituals+candles
  • Parks candles are beautifully scented and packaged (I like Parks No 1 best) and if you have a TKMaxx nearby you can sometimes pick them up there at a very much reduced price.

I can second Rituals, really impressed by their candles.

I've tried The Body Shop but the candles just had zero scent once not standing with your nose pressed to the glass and any of those Air-wick/Ambi-pure/Glade candles are also pretty much the same: very little scent unless your prepared to light about a dozen of them in which case you may as well fork out for a single but more expensive version.

thank you for your suggestions everyone!!

I never knew rituals did candles, I bought one of their offers from here for £15.00 the lotions and potions all smell gorgeous, so I will have a look.

I bought a body shop candle ages ago for £10, smelt of nothing really!!!?? waste of money.

The chocolate sounds really nice, and I have never heard of parks so off to google now. Thanks again everyone :)

The Lily-Flame candles that I recommended are also sold in John Lewis if you wanted to go and have a smell of them.

Sanctuary do lovely candles also, I smelt one in Boots today, £12 I think, but really nice smelling, and in a pretty jar.

heres a tip for candle lovers...when purchasing a candle never smell the actual candle..smell the lid/top as thats the smell you will get in the air!..i was taught this when I worked for a candle retailer :)
im tray not davey...pinched my hubbys account!!!

I must stop buying smellies..well until i spot a bargain!
never turn a bargain /freebie down you just never know when you need it :D

Another tip for candle lovers is to store your candle in the fridge- though make sure it is covered as the wax can still pick up scents from other food products (eg onion, garlic, curry..etc). The reason they are better off in the fridge is to keep the scent for longer unless your using the candle straight away.

If the Rituals candles smell as good, and last as long, as their reed diffusers, they are well worth getting.

I've got some of the chocolate candles and they always attract comment. Quite apart from smelling great (they get better as they burn!), they look fantastic and were miles bigger than I expected.
