Tax return including maternity pay?

Last year i received maternity pay for 9 months, with just few bits of work dotted before and after maternity leave finished. Do i include maternity pay into my tax return? If so, is there anything special i have to do or do i just add the total to my other figures?

Correct in all respects!

(if the maternity pay was from an employer, is this not included in your P60?)

Just to be on the safe side, are you talking about statutory maternity pay from your employer or maternity allowance that may be paid if you do not qualify for SMP? Also when you say tax return are you referring to a self assessment return or a tax credit return?

Sorry for not being clear. It is maternity allowance i am referring to and self assessment tax return.

Maternity allowance is a non-taxable benefit.
