Bless you mhco you do seem in a quandry I think you need gok's help;)I worked in a dress shop for many years and had lots of people come in just like just like you and I always managed to find something that was right for them. ;)Trainers nowadays are worn with lots of clothes and look okay with maxi dresses or even a nice long denim skirt:)also I think layers on top can be useful teeshirts with a linen shirt doubling up as a jacket.As for thrift shops or charity shops as Nannylala calls them are a good place to try on things you might not feel comfortable about doing in the highstreet
and a lot cheaper.Hope this helps you:)
