Hi, I'm also looking to buy a new TV. Years since I last had to look, and it's all so different! help!!
So, do I get a plasma or LCD? What do I look out for? Do they do anything over a 26" with integrated freeview and a side (hidden) dvd player? I notice only smaller tv's seem to have the dvd integrated.

For now I'd want to be able to plug in (if it can't be integrated) a DVD, Sky, VCR, Xbox 360 (not always), and no doubt a PS3 in the future too. I might like to invest in a surround sound system at a later date also.

I'd like to invest in a good quality TV, with great picture quality. A few of the cheaper ones I've seen look like the picture transmission is coming via an amateur broadcaster in the middle east; I'm assuming this might be to do with contrast or pixels?? Heck, what do I know? Nothing! Basically, I'm tempted by a 5 year warranty deal (like JL do), and don't want to have to replace it for a good while yet.

    Suggestions gratefully received.

p.s. think I prefer a black as opposed to silver coloured cabinet, and hope this will wear better with the duster too!

    Full HD - 1080P

Yes agree for 37inc screen not absolutely required but if you can you should.

Xbox 360 and PS3 both capable of 1080p
Many manufactures are now selling 1080p TV for not much more then normal HD.
Can’t wait to try running my PC on my TV at full HD resolution.

My 37 inch Samsung was £850. which I believe is a better option for the long run then the John Lewis deal.

Its very unlikely that broadcasters will transmit 1080p so this option is only good if you want the best and therefore intend to upgrade to HD DVD or Blu-Ray or play games or use your TV as a monitor.

Hello, I understand you prediciment as I was in the same boat this week. Its a mine field out there. I thought I had narrowed it down to a 42" inch Lg plasma, but after posting several bulletins on here and on AV forums I have opted to go for the Samsung PS42Q96HD/PS42Q97HDX (both the same telly)

From what I can tell from reading your post it might suit you too.

Its 724.00 from currys and after adding the discoutn code it takes it down to about £690.00 delivered.

If your not convinced, I went into my local currys today, they are selling instore for 950, and it spanking gorgeous, sleek black, great sound and a picture to die for.

The only reason that I havent purchased it yet, was I am a decorating the livingrtom just now and have decided to order in a week or so, (you never know the price might have changed by then too)

    I hope this helps you.

    Cheers
    A

    I'm buying a TOSHIBA 37X3030D 37" HD 1080p Ready Digital LCD TV.

Just reduced at Dixons to £753.70 but get another tenner off by using the code 10julyaw. A couple of weeks ago I was looking to buy a similar TV with lower spec for £850!

    :)

Just seen this thread & wanted to add my question.
I am looking for a 15" lcd tv for use in a caravan, budget is under £200, I don't suppose I will get an integral dvd at that price, but I was hoping to connect PS2 to play the dvds on, can that be done?
Also can a freeview box be connected to the tv? Any helpful advice greatly appreciated.
