Other peoples trash - opinions please?

I just came home and someone had dumped a cross trainer about 10 foot from my front door. The same person or people regularly dump their junk in that spot and the council comes and collects it eventually. No idea which of the neighbours does it.
What did I do? Went out, checked if it worked and nabbed it!
The small screen is a bit broken so doesn't show how many miles etc you have done but I'm not fussy. I am trying to lose weight without spending anything and a cross trainer was top of my list.
Previously the same person (possibly) dumped about 10 bird cages which I stuck in my back yard and freegled.
Just wondered what people's opinions were. Would do you this or do you frown upon that sort of thing?

Absolutely! Waste not want not! They obviously don't want it and as it's useful to you it's a form of recycling and who knows they might start leaving bags of cash next

I agree. It's a nightmare if they are dumping stuff but if you can make use of it, see it as more of a gift and keep your fingers crossed for more nice presents!!
SxI have enough money for the rest of my life... as long as I never have to pay for anything again!

I sometimes put stuff out I don't want. If it's halfway decent I put a note on saying help yourself. If it's a bit knackered I give it a few days and if it doesn't vanish I take it to the tip.
Just like skip raiding, but without the skip. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Do it by all means. A free cross trainer that has a broken display is still better than no cross trainer.
And what about the people that had the bird cages off you? They might not have been able to afford a new cage or something ya know.
Good on ya!0 -
Gosh do the council collect it for free? If we want them to collect larger stuff we have to pay.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0

Good lord, of course not! I've been known to nosey around the local dump (they have a container which doubles as a 'shop') and pick up coffee tables, chairs and stuff like that. It's positively nauseating what people throw away. I wonder how they would live if someone suddenly yanked their cosy throw-away society out from underneath them. There was a time not so long ago when furniture was largely purchased once in a lifetime and there was no waste of 'things'.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

We have to pay for bulky waste collection but by sticking it on the street they get it done for free. The bird cages went to a nice couple who were collecting an aviary and had no idea how they were going to move 100 birds, I think the freegled the cages again after the move!
I'm glad to know it's not just me saving stuff from the local landfill.
I will enjoy my rescued cross trainer, after I have cleaned the cobwebs off it :eek:Highest debt: £25,702.08 (estimated) DFD 29th August 2018 Paid £35.25
