Mortgage Query

Options
Hi , i will be applying for mortgage in the coming months. I was thinking of applying for a joint mortgage.I have excellent credit rating , experian 983 and Equifax 488. However my concern is , my wife has been in this country only for 2 years , She got bank accounts and couple of bills in her name , but apart from that basically doesn't have anything in her name.
Can somebody please let me know, that because of my wife lack of credit history , we can be refused mortgage? and if mortgage can be refused , will that affect my credit rating?

thanks

You could be refused or you could be accepted. A single credit score refusal is not going to damage your credit rating.

Do yourself a favour when the time cases and engage a good mortgage broker.

... and stop paying for those worthless "credit scores" as they are as much use as a chocolate teapot!

It is probably more down to does she have leave to remain and is she working as much as anything else. Agree you need to talk to a broker though as depending on those answers depends on your options as much as anything else.

  • Hi,

MY wife and I were in a similar situation, she is not on electoral roll as not a UK citizen.

When applying (we went direct, not through a broker) spoke to banks before applying. Some said straight up it would be a problem, others said OK, they'd need extra proof of address but otherwise OK. Chelsea and Bank of Ireland / Post Office both were helpful in this respect.
