I have several debts which go back between 5 and 7 years, and understand that after 6 years they are written off.
I have now started a new relationship, and need to know how I can do a credit check to see if all the debts have been written off, helping me to make a new start.
The problem is that when I try to register with Experian etc. they are asking for my current address, and banking details.
I obviously don't want to let anyone know where I live now, as I couldn't possibly pay the old debts off.
Does anyone know a way around this, so that I can see if my sheet is clean?
Cheers
Dave

if you are asking if someone on here knows a way you can fraudulently get out of paying your debts then i don't think you are going to get much help!!!
if you genuinely can't pay what you owe then there are options available to you - but moving house, hiding and hoping they dont find you really isn't the most sensible!
would you be willing to share a few more details?0 -
Hi Bambooman - I don't know a way around giving your details to Experian, but you can write to them, enclosing a PO for £2.00, and ask for your credit reference details.
There is, also, http://www.annualcreditreport.co.uk where you can get a free credit report, although their information may not be as up to date as the main agencies.
A small word of warning, though; Debts do not actually get 'written off' after 6 years. If you have made no payments to, or made any written contact with, the original creditor for a minimum of 6 years (5 in Scotland) then the 'debt' becomes statute barred, under the terms of the Limitations Act. In this case, once you have told the creditor/dca that you will not be paying this 'debt' then they can not pursue it any further. There are some exceptions, such as Crown Debts and Property related debt.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. a fresh start is when you have paid your debts off, who ever the debts were with you wont ever get credit from them again, and on your credit file it may have cifas , which also means you have moved without informing the debt people where you have moved and once a new credit file has been issued your address will be passed on to them? so its a hard choice, why don't you get in touch with the companies them selves?
