Can I be sued by a recruitment agency?

  • Hi there and thank you for all of your comments and advice. I have considered the issue carefully and have decided to undertake the following action:

    1) I have written a strongly worded letter to the CEO of the company in question in which I outlined the events as I saw them including the menacing and offensive way in which the recruiter spoke to me.

So thank you to those of you who recommended that I took this step. I wasnt sure if I should just leave it and put it down to experience but in the end I decided, like you, that this should be flagged up.

    2) I have started the complaint process with rec dot uk dot com- Thank you 27 year old male for that advice. Im not sure what will happen after it but its worth a go.

    3) I requested that the recruiters delete all of my information as I feel very uncomfortable knowing that this recruiter has access to all of my personal information and yet I know very very little about him. The way in which he spoke to me and imo, threatened my furture prospect through his many contacts means that I want him to lose access to as many of my details as possible- a forlorn hope I suppose but who knows.

    4) I have installed a call recorder on my phone so if he does call again I can record it and if necessary use it for future reference if he causes more trouble.

Of course, any updates and I will keep you posted.

I feel that the situation was handled very poorly by him and I hope to never have contact with him again. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that will happen. I have blocked his number and e-mail address- while this means that he cannot contact me directly, it also means that I am not aware of whether or not he intends to try and pursue the matter further.

I think those of you that suggested that he probably missed out on commission and was upset about that are right. I know commission and target based rewards drive productivity but I must say it also brings out the worst in people. My experiences with recruiters is very much like my experience with used car salesmen- very nice when it goes their way but as soon as it doesn't they either write you off completely or get nasty to try and coherse you into action.

This has been a great lesson to me and I hope my experiences mean that someone else wont be freaked out quite to the level that I was as a result of this situation. I would like to say that I hope never to use a recruiter again but that would be harsh- I have had some good experiences with determined and proficient recruiters to whom I am very grateful.

Thank you once again for your comments and your best wishes. As a minor update the family member injured is well on the road to recovery.
