in Cutting tax
Hi, I received a P800 from Revenue and Customs for the tax year 2013-14 and it states the calculation includes an underpayment for an earlier year but the year is not stated. The underpayment is for the amount of £532.40, a very big shock to me.
I contacted the tax office and was informed that I had underpaid by £2.00 for 2013-14 but the outstanding amount had come from a rebate in 2012-13. The only rebate I received then was when I first started with my current employer and the amount was £144.00. I have looked at my last 3 P60s and old payslips and it appears that I was on the right tax code.
I am going to write to them for an explanation of their calculations, as I cannot figure out where this amount has come from.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

Spoke to someone again at the tax office and they are now saying it was a rebate they sent out last June but as far as I am aware I never received a cheque from them, I explained this and I asked if the cheque had been cashed, was told that he didn't have that information and it would be referred to another department. I have checked my online banking to make sure and no cheque for the amount was processed.
Any advice on what I should do now?0 -
You're going to have to get HMRC to refer this to their technical team to trace the cheque, confirm it wasn't cashed, cancel it and re credit your account. Keep chasing them.0

Thanks for that, I will definitely be chasing them about this.0
