Slugs coming into the house!!!

There are three types of creatures I just can't stand and they are slugs/snails, spiders and butterflies/moths. Fortunately, I can deal with the latter two quite well, it's just slugs I can't deal with.

For as long as I can remember, I have woken up to slime trails across the rug in our living room. This has happened ever since we had wooden floor put in and my dad put the skirting board up too high in one corner of the house. Ever since, we have had slugs come in at night. It never used to be much of a problem as we never saw them. However, they now seem to be getting more daring and we are seeing them in the middle of the living room. It's disgusting. I've currently hidden in my room because I found three of the !!!!!!s. They creep me out so much, they creep me out more than they used to because I would find them in my uni house coming up the wall in the kitchen or the kitchen sink. We have put copper tape down where we are certain they are coming in as its pretty much the only gap we can find but they are still coming in. As we have small children coming into our house and the odd cat, my mum refuses to put slug pellets down as she doesn't want the children or the cat to eat them and she doesn't want decomposing slugs in the wall.

A little saucer of beer put near where you think they are coming in should help. They are attracted by the smell and have a happy passing.

silicone sealant?? Squeeze into every crevice you think they might be getting in through?

Sweep huge amounts of salt into gaps.. use the sealant and then to make uber certain nothing can get in.. add some quadrant to the join where the flooring meets the wall.. it sounds excessive so it might work!

Not sure what quadrant is but I'll get some silicone sealant. I had previously suggested sealant to my mum but I think she thought I was talking about expanding foam - which has done some damage to a wall in our house due to bad diy on my dad's part.

Edit: I googled quadrant, I'll get my hands on some of that too. I'm fed up of these slugs so I'll do the diy myself as everyone in my house is just prepared to live with it.

My kittens used to bring slugs in through the cat-flap. I didn't work out what the shrivelled black things on the stair carpet were for quite some time, till one lived long enough to leave a trail. No idea what they were doing to pick them up. Vile things (slugs, not kittens)! They grew out of it, or the slug supply dried up. Just a thought.

The cat that comes in isn't ours. She comes through the back door when its open, she is next doors cat. She only ever really wanders to the dining room and then she's out again, so no where near where the slugs are coming though but I hadn't thought of that.

Sprinkle a little salt around where you think they are coming from.

    They will not cross that.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

We've always had a slug problem in this house. We had a conservatory built this year and the slugs were literally coming out of the walls
and some of them beggars were gigantic!
Cue 2am slug hunts and lots of sealant. There is still a tiny one somewhere because I find a little trail in the mornings but I will get it :rotfl:
I have to admit that I am not squeamish about them though and just pick them up with a piece of damp kitchen roll and stick them outside. :o
