Well, after cooking and trimming, 600g of pork meat.

Not bad for two roast dinners, two stuffed pittas, and some scraps for soup and perhaps pitta pizza.

I've made up my breakfasts for the week in tubs, 1 and 1/2 bags of fruit, and I've managed with just one tub of yogurt, 100ml per. Might be a little firmer than normal - got to eek it out somehow.

I'm wondering if I should buy some bananas? I've got £3.20 (I counted) and I could buy 6 or so for a pound from the market, make 2 or 3 banana loaves with my bag of dried fruit and some cinnamon, slice them up and freeze them. 6 or 8 slices each I'd expect.

Would mean taking the eggs away from my lunches, and I'd have to buy some fat.

Could do three loves for £1.50 I think.

Worth it? Or wait and see?

Oh, and can you use plantain for these? They're even cheaper.
Sorry if my point meanders a bit - I'm mostly thinking out loud - and the cat never complains :D

I use my Easiyo yoghurt maker to make my own yoghurt. You don't need to use the sachets but you would need a natural yoghurt starter and some milk but once you've made one batch it acts as the starter for your next batch.

I am a bit of a hoarder and my freezer is probably more stuffed than yours. I think not being able to buy fresh fruit and veg and dairy is going to be the biggest challenge. I'm sure it's doable just a bit dull and limited.

Good luck and I hope your financial challenges get sorted!

Do you think you could use a decent dollop of 'Lazy Garlic' instead of fresh.I have no fresh, and fancy making this as I have the rest of the ingredients in stock and I really don't want to go near the shops :D

That looks delicious. I think I have almost all that needs - not the marmite *blegh* but everything else I think.

I'd use a shake of Worcestershire sauce if I didn't have Marmite or a few gravy granules.

I'm sure Lazy Garlic would be fine. I use it all the time for casseroles. I only use fresh for roasting with Mediterranean veg etc. and even then sometimes I use a jar of peeled cloves.

Recipe looks delicious, I must try it.

I've improvised with the Jack Munro recipe a bit too. Last time I didnt have onions so I added extra garlic...... Time before I accidentally added chick peas instead of kidney beans.... Both slightly different but fine. I think it's the sort of recipe you can improvise with, although the original is definitely very moorish (or should that be more-ish........ Googling shows that there is an internet debate about the word, if it exists at all!).

Provided you can scrounge a little bit of live yogurt to act as a starter, you can make yogurt in your Easiyo using UHT milk; you just don't need to scald it (already been done!) so start from room temperature just as you do with the packet mixture. Mix the starter in with the UHT, seal the inner flask, add the boiling water, pop the inner flask in, leave overnight & it's done. You can usually "chain" (i.e. re-use) the culture 4 or 5 times before it starts to get sour.
