old OD debt

Mr Hinge has received several phone calls from a company wanting to discuss a old debt he had with Llyods Tsb.

It is a overdraft account from his student days that should of turned to a graduate account but didn't. Mr Hinge at the time tried several times to speak to the staff in branch about this and gave them all the proof they required required for the graduate account (makes most of it interest free for so many years) yet they said there is nothing that can be done and they were unwilling to remove the wrongly added interest charges....... The charges make up more than 2/3rds of the total balance of the account.

I believe this is the 3rd company to hold the debt following Tsb selling it on 3 years ago although Mr Hinge is refusing to talk to them and they are refusing to talk to me!

We have had no contact from them in writing other then these phone calls but I need to get this sorted. I am getting of up of the house phone ringing!!

Any advice on how to proceed would be very appreciated!

Thanks in advance

I would not advocate speaking to any DCA on the phone, wait until something in writing turns up, then send them the provit letter, available in the stickies at the top of this forum.
Once they have sent you some kind of proof, in this case I would assume statements, then you can, should you wish, dispute the charges, always get more success from a written complaint in my view, if as you suspect, the debt has been sold on, then likely they may settle for a lot less that what's been asked for, failing that you should be able to sort some kind of repayment plan with them.
