anyone using terracotta cooking pot?

I was gifted a big terracotta casserole dish but it's unglazed I think (dull finish not shiney). Bit worried about how to use it?

Similar idea, looks like a bit too much hassle for me, with soaking etc. I'd be worried if it cracked in the oven0
