Do you have a link to the rule where it says that you are not allowed to post short links? I was looking for it the other day but couldn't find it.

    From forum rules

    Why can't I use !!!!!!!, etc?
In the past sites such as !!!!!!!, !!!!!!!, Makeashortlink and others have been used to hide referral links, which we don't allow on the forum, so they've been banned.
If you want to shorten a link to post it on the forum, please use the following method:
    • Type the text - eg, "MoneySavingExpert" - that you want to display instead of the link.
    • Highlight the text with your mouse.
    • Click the hyperlink image (createlink.gif) at the top of the message.
    • A pop-up will appear asking you to enter the link you want this text to link to. Enter the link, and click OK.
    • Save your post and you'll see your link is clickable.

I think they are allowed,in the sense the MSE admin do not block them with a load of punctuation.Unless MSE admin has just not caught up with them as yet & we may see them blocked in the futire.

Convention on MSE Comps seems to indicate that we do not post via such as those that I quoted as they are not readily searchable.

    I believe that gleam.io is the same as on.fb.me ; goo.gl ; tiny-url ; bit-ly ; snip-url etc. and is covered by the MSE rule
In the past sites such as (these) have been used to hide referral links, which we don't allow on the forum, so they've been banned.
As weeowens surmised, MSE admin has just not got around to formally banning them all individually - which would make them appear as !!!!!!! when you try to post them.

It is not just referral links that are the problem. A recent comp was posted and used a link of this type to go to a site that was banned itself. "Getting round" an MSE ban is naturally against the rules.

For example https://gleam.io/fb/fxz8w is not (yet) banned, but if you click on it, you go to https://www.facebook.com/somesuch. But "somesuch" is banned in its own right. If you tried to post the normal link in full you would get https://www.facebook.com/!!!!!!!!

Sooner the better with gleam, got to be a very good chance some of the ones posted (by two "different" posters) are self-promotion for the entry platform.

    Got to agree.
I was starting to suspect that they maybe gaining extra entries if people entered via the gleam links. Is that possible?
