  • What are your plans for her birthday? We planned to do lots of NT stuff this week and my motivation has been rubbish - we made it to 1.. haven't seen any of the littlies friends and had far too many TV days.

Sounds like you are making progress with the lounge! Glad to hear DD is on the mend finally - how are you feeling?

Hopefully with school back next week, you'll be able to finish that stripping.. sure it will all look lovely for Christmas.. is DD excited yet? Am sure my DD plans to write her Christmas list today!

I've just realised that a family ticket to see Trolls for DD's birthday is going to cost £35!!!! You can tell I haven't been to the cinema for a while... If I'd been tight I would have insisted they see The Secret Life of Pets as it's £2.50 each but DD is now very excited about seeing Trolls and I've picked the autism-friendly screening (full price sadly) as she has sensory issues. It's still cheaper than a class party. :D Plus you can take in your own food and drink.

We've also planned a trip to the big museum and a tour of Daddy's office at the adjoining university. We'll probably eat at the caf! there. We're also taking the kids (cousins coming too) to Pizza Hut after the cinema.

Even if it ends up costing a fortune, I much prefer it to organising a party. It's a whole weekend of fun!

We also planned 4 NT activities and DD did one with the grandparents and one with us. The one we went to was brilliant though and I loved it. We had spooky stories in a very old house, apple bobbing, crafts and a trail.

We're all feeling almost better now! Some sore throats and coughing are still occurring but we're all healthy enough to walk places now, which helps.

I have ordered 2 Playmobil advent calendars. It was buy one get one half price so I'll save one for next year. I also added a reduced cost tow truck for my nephew's birthday, which meant I got a free Knights DVD and a free little set with a princess and other bits. Free delivery too!

DD no longer believes in Father Christmas (she worked it out much younger than I did) but is doing an excellent job of not ruining it for everyone else. All of her excitement is birthday-related at the moment.

    In other news:

I have booked our holiday! It's horribly expensive for 4 nights at £619 but Nana is coming too and I'm thinking the more expensive it is, the less chance of unsavoury characters keeping you awake all ruddy night like last year when I got a bargain deal. We're going in the summer half term and it looks amazing. I've also enquired with a pet-sitting company to look after my little babies. I shall miss them so much.

OH tried and failed to appeal the £80 fine. Booooo! :( He will never not buy a ticket again!

So basically the £800 tax rebate has been eaten up easily by the car service, a fine and a tiny bit of a holiday. Oh well.

OH has contacted HR about the fact that he's earning £100 less than in his old job and they're looking into it. It seems that there's some scheme where they take off your pension contribution before they tax you and they haven't signed him up for it.

DD could not wait to go into school today after so long at home with me! Rubbish Mummy didn't get the memo about show and tell though so she was a bit disappointed.

I have written a massive To Do list. I'm trying to do one thing a day so I don't get stressed. OH is going to pick up the birthday cake and other stuff tonight. DD wants sausages, Yorkshire puds and mash for her birthday tea! She's been very happy recently and it's been lovely.

  • ^What she said^ - it's because you are doing a great job (I don't mean that your good job means she is rushing to get back into School!!!!)

Seriously well done, we are doing something similar for birthdays, a day out and then not 100% sure on their actual birthday, but still tempted to do something.. my only wavering towards a birthday tea is the new school aspect so we could get to know the kids and parents.

I just need a vent... probably best not to read...

Woken at 5am by DD - her birthday has triggered another difficult patch,
Walking to school with another mum, another better mum came along and she ditched me for her, which has happened pretty much every day recently and is starting to get me down,
School have still done nothing about the social media issue (DD being posted online despite massive security risk) after complaining 4 times since July - just sent a very angry email but it's making me really fed up as I have enough to worry about,
I cleaned the rat cage and something must have happened in the enclosure as one of them was really spooked and refused to come home. Buried herself inside a cushion so after 2 hours of coaxing I just put the cushion in the cage (not easy as it's a settee cushion) and she is finally back,
I am constantly tired at the moment and worried there's something wrong with me on top of everything else.

I want to cry. I'm going to try to time the school run better to minimise having to speak to anyone. I feel like I'm back at school and the popular kids don't want me anywhere near them.

I also need to find some patience from somewhere for DD as it's obvious really that a weekend of fun was a bit too much and didn't allow enough time for reflection.

    GOOD THINGS:

DD thanked us for all the treats and gifts and seemed to actually really enjoy everything, which is a first!

HMRC have written saying they owe us another £200??!!!

I did a tiny bit of wallpaper removal.

I had a really nice weekend and enjoyed watching Trolls.

Things I need to do to get happier:

Be nice to DD and understanding, even when she's being horrible.

    Stop eating so badly.

Get a wriggle on with the wallpaper to feel some sense of satisfaction.

Try to spend as little time as possible at the school gates.

  • Vent all you like. Just remember that people who can't appreciate you don't deserve your time. Also, if you want to cry, find somewhere, even the bathroom, and do it. Then have a mug of tea and remember that we are all here for you. Take care.

  • Some people are just not worth knowing Amy. They don't deserve a place in the life of someone like you.

    Bin 'em.

Hi Amy, wow what a time you have had since I last popped in! Congratulations on DD adoption, how amazing! I can read it has been very difficult at times but having read your diary I think you are doing amazingly and helping to build a safe and wonderful home to help her come to terms with the difficulties she has already had to deal with. Children can have difficult behaviours even without trauma and I think other parents dont realise how much adjustment is needed. Flip off the other parent, you sound so much more interesting!
