Unoccupied property - would lenders refuse a mortgage
Comments
-
We bought a repossessed house a few years ago (admittedly before the stricter mortgage rules came in)
We didn't actually move into it for a year after we bought it as the whole house needed renovating, which we had to fit in between our full time jobs. Hubby was still living at his mum's at the time and I was renting so we just took our time and got everything done before moving in. Got a mortgage no problem after structural survey came back sound (just needed general renovation and rewiring)
We also didn't have to pay council tax while the house was uninhabitable - I think someone from the council had to come and assess it first to check we weren't telling porkies0 -
Why make a big issue of this. Put one bed in there, leaves some essential items there, and "stay" there for one night every so often. Countinue to pay council tax and other bills.
We plan to do the same thing and our house has been empty (but secure) for some time whilst we seek permission.
It's subjective as to whether you're living there or not. And for those of you thinking about questioning insurance, good companies will continue to give coverage for up to 60 days consecutive unoccupied. Stay once in a while and the timer starts all over again.
Forget the nonsense about informing mortgage companies etc. Why would you make life more difficult?Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0
