how can i stop payday companys lending to my mother

hi i need some help my mum has run up some debt i found this out by looking at her emails which i shouldn't have the probelm is her husband is already in an iva and she has borrowed from about 5 different payday companys if i try and talk to her she hides it but the probelm is that she can go on the internet anywhere and get a loan and run up more debt is there away that a name or house can be put on a blacklist to stop these comapnys giving her loans as the banks won't because they know she can't pay but payday companys will so my worry is now she can't stop it and seems to be addicted to doing this and its gonna get out of control

    Hi Swansea,

You can't stop her but you can educate her in alternatives...

Rather than an addiction, it could be that she is stuck in the PDL trap and is borrowing from one to repay another :( She might think she has no options especially with her DH being on an IVA but show her the Step Change website and assure her that payday lenders will not reject her repayment plan and the budgets are realistic.

    Good luck

If she defaults on these payday loans then eventually even they will stop lending to her.

Do you know why she is borrowing money? and what it is being used for? it may be worth trying to talk to her about budgeting and what she is struggling to repay currently and then helping her come up with a plan to get debt free so she has no need to use them in future.
