What address was the judgement sent to? was that also to his parent's address?
Did he supply his parent's address to the landlord? did he ever provide his actual address to the landlord?
If he disagrees that the money is owed then he may have a case to get the judgement set aside - https://www.nationaldebtline.org/EW/factsheets/Pages/12%20EW%20County%20court%20-%20how%20to%20set%20aside%20a%20judgment/Default.aspx
If he agrees that the money is owed and is in a position to pay/borrow the money to pay within 30days of the judgement date then it is definitely worth doing to prevent the CCJ sitting on his credit file for the next 6years.
However if he cannot afford to pay then he needs to go back to court (form N245 I think) to ask to pay the debt in installments - details of how to do this here - https://www.nationaldebtline.org/EW/factsheets/Pages/08%20EW%20County%20court%20-%20suspending%20a%20bailiff%27s%20warrant%20or%20reducing%20instalments%20on%20a%20county-court%20judgment/Default.aspxA smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thanks tixy, I can't see the link at the bottom re paying in instalments?
No the landlord didn't have his address as he had no fixed abode. They found his parents address by going through his things left at theirs which they wouldn't give back. The judgement was sent to his new addres which his parents gave them but his parents never said a word to him about it.0
