ukvoices.co.uk Anybody heard of them?

Hi everyone,

I'm interested in doing voiceovers and voice acting in an attempt to earn some extra cash. After an extensive google search I came up with the above site.

On the site it makes everything sound very easy. Upload a profile with audio file to their site and pay a membership fee of £1.50 every 11 days for membership. £50ph rates, no specialist equipment needed, no experience necessary... It all just sounds a bit too good to be true. Am I right to be suspicious or has anyone got any experience of dealing with them?

Does anyone else have any sites they could recommend, or perhaps point me in the right direction as to agents who specialise in this sort of thing?

Ta x

I would always be very suspicious of any firm which charged me a fee to use their services but then promised a large income. If they were genuinely confident that you would be earning so much they would give free membership and take a cut when you were successful.

Fraid I can't help with your question about a genuine opportunity though.

the website looks safe to use but as always, proceed with caution and do more research before parting with money

  • PeoplePerHour seem to be a good freelance website. I signed up to them (for free) hoping to do some translation service on the side but never ended up having the time to. Basically ebay for part-timers. Did a quick search and found that there are jobs for voice acting. You just need to set up your profile. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I was again a little wary of the fact that I had to provide money on a regular basis, and also that if I wished to cancel the contract I have to do that via a "STOP" txt message (doesn't sound the most reliable of formats and reminded me of those premium rate txts other companies send and then when you go to cancel doesn't listen to your requests).

I've already had a look on peopleperhour and found a few opportunities that could be promising. Having a look on MSE it seems that quite a few people have tried it with varying results. I'm a little worried that as I have little experience of voiceovers I'll be overlooked by the more experienced people but nothing ventured, nothing gained I guess.
