in Cutting tax
I am currently working within the casino industry and therefore a gaming licence is mandatory. This licence is issued by a government department and costs a small fortune. Does anyone know if it can be included on you self assessment for tax purposes ?

If you will not be permitted to operate without it, i.e. it is ESSENTIAL, then yes, it is a legitimate business expense.
It would not be allowable if you were training in the hope of getting work though.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Unless there is a specific exemption, then it IMO it clearly passes the "wholly and exclusively" test which would make it allowable.0

do you mean a Personal Functional Licence costing £185 per year?

if yes then you write to your tax office (address on payslip or ask employer) and claim the tax relief. Note you will get tax relief, not a refund of the cost of the licence itself, so if you are a basic rate taxpayer you will get 185 x 20% = £37. HMRC will either adjust your tax code or they may make a payment if you are claiming for back years. Note you can only claim as far back as 6 April 2010 (ie start of 10/11 tax year)0 -
