i remember when the fourth book came out i went to waterstones just before closing time before the midnight opening and read the first chapter as the staff were stacking them up ready for the marauding hordes later in the day. lateral thinking, guys... :P
i still don't understand why anyone preorders things like this... if you're that desperate to read it, surely it just means you get it 8/9 (or, in my case, 15) hours after everyone else, and it's stacked up tons high in any bookshop/24-hour supermarket you choose to visit anyway?0 -

There is no future HP book embargo but Bloomsbury could with hold other new book releases which should be enough to stop most book stores, and there is certainly a contract in place with ALL sellers & Bloomsbury have said quite clearly they will sue anyone who breaks the contract by selling early. At the end of the day a publisher wouldn't go to all this trouble with security then not enforce it. Whilst damages might be a drop in the ocean to some of the big selllers, they potentially could also be correspondingley bigger, to say nothing of the negative publicity that would impact for years after the inital positives have faded. Also, in the case of mail order companies there is no incentive to break such a big contract, they have already got your money and you paid on the basis that you were happy to receive the book on the published date & not sooner. Only actual high street shops woudl benefit financially from selling early.
In short, don't hold your breath for early delivery, they won't be arriving until the 21st;)Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

I don't understand why it is so important to have the book at the earliest possible moment in the world's history in the first place. Not bad if that's all that has to be worried about in life. After all it's just a book for kids.0 -

Have just checked my waterstones account....it is saying that my order has been shipped. However, I have received no email to say so. I did order early (knew 2 people who'd buy it anyway). Suspect though that they're packaging the orders and even sending them to the shipper. But as there's so many orders I'll bet that the shipper has them in a 'holding pen' and they'll only go out on a particular date.
I wouldn't count on getting them early.Baby Year 1: Oh dear...on the move

I don't have kids, but I wouldn't want them up most of the night reading, especially at that time, I'd just rather buy it in the morning.0 -
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I ordered from Waterstones and got an email this morning saying my order has been dispatched.... but actually at the bottom of the message it says if you have ordered Harry Potter this e-mail is only an indication that we have now taken payment from your account.
So I am afraid that is probably just all it is... check your bank account or give Play a call, they will probably confirm this for you.0
