Joint Bank Account

Options
Hi,

We have DIP from Leeds Building Society as we have applied for a shared ownership property.

We have decided to get a joint bank account as at the moment we split the bills and we end up transferring between our accounts depending on what bills are coming out, etc. So we have decided to get a joint bank account with Barclays (who my fianc! is already with).

Now, our IFA said go ahead with getting a joint account but I was under the impression that changing bank accounts before a full mortgage application wasn't a good idea? He said it's fine but I just need some assurance!

No new credit or applications for credit until after the mortgage completes.

Doing so may do no harm, but conversely it will do absolutely no good. It's all downside, no reward.

  • Pretty sure Kingstreet is right on this... Why not just wait until it's all settled then sort this stuff out? You'll be reevaluating all your bills, etc anyway.

I agree with kingstreet above. I am in a similar situation waiting for mortgage to complete and would like to switch my joint account. I did some reading around and figured its best to wait till things have settled down a bit.

Wait until your mortgage is secure atleast. Myself and partner were in same boat and I didnt want to risk anything prior to mortgage being guaranteed. Didnt take long to open joint account, we had online access within 3 days (sant 123).
