Computer won't shut down........

Three nights ago when I went to shut down, the Microsoft message about automatic installing of updates appeared saying that as usual it would shut down when finished, but computer was still on in the morning and appeared to be still trying to install the updates. Switched it off manually, but the same thing has happened for the past two nights. When I go to shut down I get the same message each time about installing those same updates etc etc and computer does not shut down. It's like it has got jammed or something. I went to the Microsoft site to see what updates I had recently received and it says that these last three were installed successfully.

Has anybody got any ideas on what I can do to get my computer to shut down on its own again and get rid of this installation message that seems to be stuck there?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

you can remove the updates from Add/remove programs

or use System restore to go back to before the updates and try again

"All Programs" then "accessories" then "system tools" and restore is there

I found the latest updates took an age to install, left the PC on at work - by the time I came in the following morning it had shutdown...

No on the Microsoft site it says that these updates cannot be removed!

Have just checked on Microsoft site and last one was Definition Update for Windows Defender KB915597 (Definition 1.20.2737.3). It still says on my history list that all recent updates have been installed successfully!

Just tried shutting down again and the same thing happened, it just keeps saying it is installing update 1 of 3 and don't shut down, it will switch off automatically.

Only way I can shut computer down is to keep my finger on the button until it goes off, bit worried that this might not be a good thing to do!

Microsoft site says that these updates cannot be removed once installed, so don't think that is an option. Plus the fact that I can't find the updates in programs!!

melbury go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Systen Restore.
You will see a calender with various restore dates highlighted. Choose one before you did the updates.
    Hope you understand
