This is a headline I read today. The 3% figure is from the National association of estate agents.

Have you bought your first home recently, & are you under 30? If so, how tough was it? :)

I bought my first house when I was about 23.
I bought my second home when I was 27 (20 months ago).

I bought my first house at 24, but that was nearly 40 years ago when things were a little different.

Bought my first home with my fiance in May, we are both 27.

My fiance inherited £100k last year. Without that, absolutely no chance of buying, ever. We can afford the mortgage by ourselves, but saving enough for a deposit, fees, stamp duty (£9k!) etc would have been impossible while renting. Admittedly we bought in reading which is a fairly expensive area, but even in other parts of the country it would have been hard.

I don't know a single person my age who has bought without significant help from Parents or inheriting.

I bought my first home 2 years ago - was 29.

It was hard to too - but drove an economical car, had no expensive foreign holidays, and no expensive gadgets - £10 mobile contract etc.
My rented flat was a bit of a dump but it was cheap, so suited me well.

I was also never in debt, so was able to start saving as soon as i was earning enough.
Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.
  • I bought my first house when I finished uni at the ripe old age of 23, bought the second when I was 26 and my third (and hopefully final) at 28.

Most of my friends have bought/are buying in their 20s.
    Thinking critically since 1996....

It would be interesting to know how much is affordability related and how much is mobility related.

I, like many of my peers, am in my mid twenties and could afford to buy but do have the required geographical stability to benefit from it.
