The world’s toughest sporting event started yesterday

I posted this in the Arm’s but I think it deserves its own thread here where it might be appreciated more.

The Badwater Ultramarathon started yesterday. It goes across Death Valley, in the middle of summer when temperatures can reach 50 C, starts at the lowest point in the continental U.S. — Death Valley’s Badwater Basin which is 282 feet below sea level and ends at the highest – the 14,505 foot summit of Mount Whitney.

Oh and it is 135miles long.

The first checkpoint runners got to was at 22 miles yesterday and the first runner came in at 3hours 22minutes!

Have you seen the Spartan Death Race? If I was anywhere near fit I'd want to try it
