Is it worth applying for a job if you don't meen an 'essential' requirement?

I would definitely apply. From working at a council in a previous life, if the essentials were not met by applicants, they move onto desirables. Also you may be able to save your application on line and even if you do not get an interview, you can keep your eye out for other jobs and adapt your application accordingly. Good luck.0

I would think about what a budget is and what they mean so you can address all your life experience to that part of the job spec as well as the other things.
The key thing about a budget is that it is a PLAN.... that needs to be monitored
For some that is a difficult concept as they are often short term income/spend based.0 -
I have an interview next week for a job I don't meet all essential criteria for - but it's just one point out of about a dozen, and I explained on the personal statement that it's something I could learn to do quite quickly (learn to use certain software). I think if you acknowledge it and explain in a positive light what experience you have with budgeting already, even if it isn't operating/managing one, at least you are being honest. I think it's better than glossing over it. If they sift you out, it's no different from not applying, as neither result in an interview. You have nothing to lose!0
