OS Tuesday 22 July

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Good Morning chums ,what a hot humid night I gave up trying to sleep about half an hour ago, even with the fan on it was uncomfortable .
well I saw the Dr yesterday, bless the receptionists, they are really good. he gave me some strong anti bios as he said the gnat bites have become secondary infections and there is soft tissue damage . I could have told him that just by looking at them !!! still I am on the heavy duty pills now so hopefully it will stop the irritation.
This morning is U3A coffee morning so that's a freebie as I have dobbies vouchers to use. Then at lunchtime two of my DGS break up and they want their favourite snack for lunch which is beans on toast with grated cheese on top :):):)
The youngest boy Mikey breaks up tomorrow afternoon then thats it until September for the children .
Pub quiz tonight so fingers crossed for another bottle of vino to add to the collection :)
Looks like its going to be another warm day today, so sun cream out and ready to smother myself in it.I have very fair skin (scots ancestors) and I turn a pleasant shade of cherry in the sun so I have to keep well smothered in the stuff to avoid burning
Hope you all have a good day I'm off to have a shower and a large pot of tea(in need of rehydrating I think )
    Cheers chums

    Morning all :)

My gallbladder stones decided to play up from around 10pm last night so haven't had much sleep due to the pain :( I have a scan booked for the 29th to see how much of a problem it is then will take it from there :(

I am slowly decluttering the kitchen / dining area so want to make a start on the TV unit before the kids wake up (I've already disturbed OH who doesn't need to get up for work until 6.30 :o ) The unit comprises of 2 cupboards and 6 drawers so it's not a quick job by any means.

    I'm making these for tonight:

    http://www.route79.com/food/spicy-oven-chicknibs.htm

I haven't made them before but they look nice and hopefully everyone will lIke them. From memory there's a mini doughnut maker in the TV unit so I can get the Kids to help make chocolate doughnuts. It's only been used once as they were not keen on the recipe that came with it so I will hunt for a better recipe.

I have tried to follow the flylady thread but was getting nowhere fast so I have made up my own list for this week. I might not be able to complete it all as energy is often lacking thanks to fibro but it is more manageable and hopefully I won't feel such a failure if I don't complete the list :o

The dog needs flea and worm treating today before he turns into a fleabag and he could do with a good brush as his hair is getting everywhere. I will leave that job for OH when he gets home this evening I think.

Think that's it for now. Will pop by later to read everyone else's tales. Have a good day all :)

  • Good morning everyone

Another really hot night here as well, didn't sleep well either..

The sun has got his hat on already this morning, and another hot day is forcast. I haven't enough washing to put the machine on.

Jackie I am glad the GP was able to see you so quickly, and hopefully the antibiotics will do the job. It isn't long until your holiday, is it, so you need to be clear of the bites before you go?

Not a lot planned for today, taking DD shopping and we must pick up our prescriptions from the chemist, they text me now when it is ready, which is a help. With the afternoons being so hot at the moment, we tend to do all our chores in the morning, and try to keep cool in the afternoon. After our meal in the evening we can then go back out into the garden. The sun is on the back of our house for most of the day.

Hugs to Hilly and Molly and anyone else not feeling too well today.

    Have a good day

I read somewhere that if you freeze 2ltr bottles of water and put them in front of a fan it cools the air,I am in Scotland and we don't seem to have the intense heat everyone else is having to endure.

Hugs to Molly & Hilly, LW & Mrs LW hope the dogs are ok in the heat. Julie, lovely news, Jackie hope the bites improve. Judi, lol at Soldier, Tru, hope things improve for Mr Tue, having a PITA for a boss is a nightmare. Happydays, thanks for the tip.
Urgh, I feel carp, bad stomach, plus end of termitis, there are piles of washing & paperwork to sort out & I need to vacuum, but I'm too knackered to do any of it. The nearer we get to the end of term the more work is being given to me, about 2 weeks worth so far, I'm working 5 days over the holiday but 2 of those days are for sorting out a faculty office (I get all the good jobs, me!). There are budget cutbacks, I'm not allowed to know what my budget is but I've overspent & there are complaints about the cost of having aircon on, I'm ok, my aircon isn't for me, it's to keep the machines running!
Oh well, best foot forward, as they say.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester
    Chin up, Titus out.

    Morning all :)

Jackieo - glad dr has given you pills, I hope the work fast
Tru - sorry to hear DH is having a rough time at work
Jlhmd666 - poor you! I hope the stones settle and you can catch a nap later x
Hh - hope your tummy settles soon. Don't over do it, get well first x

Cooler here last night, didn't need fan on.

DS1 skin has flared up again. He was doing so well on pills from hospital but they were immune suppressants so he couldn't take them for long. His next dermatology appointment is the beginning of August but if it starts to look very bad I will ring and see if they can fit him in earlier.

Planning on washing sheets today if it doesn't rain. I also need to go clothes shopping, I've been using tesco essential bio washing powder and it's ruined our clothes - they have come up with blotchy bleached out patches on all of them

I'm making pasta for dinner tonight and if there's time will make hm bread to go with it :)

Have a super day all, hugs to everyone who needs them x

Good Morning :hello: everybody - looks like another blisteringly hot day ahead for us :(. I really DON'T do very well at all in this heat .............. frazzled.gif

I've agreed to an extra shift in the CS today because one of the ladies can't make it today. I've had so much time off this summer and people were only too willing to cover my shifts, that I just can't refuse to help out when other volunteers have problems.

JackieO - glad you managed to get to see your GP, but how awful for you that 'simple Gnat Bites' can cause so much pain and misery. You have my utmost sympathy comforting.gif. When I've got my 'midgie bites', I look as though I've got the Bubonic Plague - but at least they're not painful, just damned irritating .
jlhmd666 - thanks for the link to that recipe, it looks like something that could be very useful for 'party-time catering'. When we have family get-togethers, they're always 'bring a plate' style - ie something to eat PLUS something to share .
I also gave up on 'Flylady' as I had too much going on to be able to keep up with it - and you're right, it makes you feel a failure when you can't keep up with it. I envy those you can manage it, but it just ain't for me :(.
candlelight - enjoy your day shopping with your DD :).
    happydays89 - what a brilliant tip! I'd n-e-v-e-r have thunk of that one :T.
tru - I envy you 'your girls'; I find watching chickens 'pottering around' very relaxing. Really wanted some when I moved here, but our rear gardens don't even have any gates/fences separating them from the 'front' of the properties - very strange shrug.gif. I'm sure they feel much more 'comfortable' after their mite treatment - how ungrateful of them to 'not like you' at the moment ;).
Hardup Hester - How well I remember 'End-of-termitis'. I worked in a comp school with a really bad reputation, and the kids were even more impossible when 'breaking up'. Unfortunately, we all had to work right through the hols including the 7week summer break :(. Hope you manage to have a bit of a rest while you're 'off' this summer.
dandy-candy - I gave up on the A$da SmartPrice Laundry Powder (similar stuff) because it seemed to suddenly stop dissolving in the machine - could this be what's happening with yours? I switched to the SmartPrice Laundry Liquid and haven't had any problems since - I use a 'dosage ball' inside the drum :).
redruby - have a good day in work. Hope you manage to find your duck eggs .

    Plans for today include:
    • Need a shower soon and then get ready to go out to CS.
    • Must remember to get some fresh milk, SR Flour and toilet rolls while I'm out today.
    • Will have a 'quick check' on the whoopsies while I'm in A$da - purely for research purposes, of course :rotfl:.

Hope we all have lots of lovely OS-ing today.

I'll call back in again later this evening to see how you've all been getting on with this heat :D.

    cheers - Lilyplonk xxx

    Good morning everyone :j

Sorry to hear that you were in pain jhlmd666 with gallstones, I had my gallbladder removed when I was 25 after being in agony with it and even 20 years later I still remember the pain  Although it was great to get rid of them it has left me with digestive difficulties which nobody told me could happen.

My DD11's leavers concert went well and she picked up an award for being the class bookworm :D. This doesn't surprise me as all my girls love reading. She just has today in school and then that's it. My other DD's still have 3 more days before they break up but they are doing fun activities so it isn't too painful lol.

I need to get hold of my eldest DD today to see if she can pop to tescos for me. I was going to make Spanish chicken but it is simply too hot to have the oven on so I will make fajitas instead but I need wraps and sour cream. I think she is going shopping today anyway so I will try and catch her before she leaves.

I'm just going to have a quick tidy up today as I have a new friend from church coming over for a coffee, so I had better get a wiggle on. Take care xx
