How large are your debts? If you sell now and clear your debts, would you be left with enough equity to pay 6 months rent as a deposit? Most landlords don't care about your credit rating if you can do this!
If your debts are larger than that, you could sell, rent paying 6months deposit then make full and final offers to clear the debts with what is left.
I am not minimising the uncertaintly of renting. But an endless DMP is not a good way to bring up your children either. So it may be better to bite the bullet and sort things out now, rather than be forced into it in a couple of years, at which point other people too will be looking to sell.
