Rightmove asking prices -0.8% MOM + 6.5% YOY

First fall in asking prices this year, likely down to distraction from the world cup and summer holidays coming up.

2014 still "the year to move" despite "seasonal slowdown".

Nearly half of homebuyers who expect to move over the next 12 months are "equity rich third time movers".

London ripple effects spreads across the Southern regions.

Rightmove forecast a total 8% HPI for this year.

Average asking price 270k, down from 272k last month.

The flat below me had an open day on Saturday and they had 12 viewings in three hours. I expect they will have to go to sealed bids, and the flats are now reaching the same prices at the 2007 peak.

Asking prices have fallen in July in six of the last 10 years, so not an unusual event.

Some evidence of moderation in HPI possibly.

Wonder when we'll get back on Nationwide's long term real house line? 5 years?

That's 2.9% above inflation for the last forty years so some catching up to do.

I'd love this to be a sign of stagnation/dip, but we need more data from Nationwide, Halifax etc, first because as Hamish says, it just seems to be evidence of a seasonal trend.

That said, given how unprecented the rise has been in London over the past year, evidence that dips are even possible is a good thing.

I don't buy this line about a slow down being partly a result of the world cup.

I consider myself to be quite a football fan (my wife would raise her eyebrows over the 'quite' part). I would never put off buying a house for a month because of a couple of matches each day, all late in the evening outside of viewing times, with England out in the first round.

Sounds more like an excuse to me.

Slow down at this time of year is very normal.
