Selling chutney in Scotland

Hi, my daughter who is 15 is a dab hand at making chutney. She would like to sell at boot sales and fates. Does anyone know what regulations she would have to follow if any? She would be using only organic ingredients and new jars. Any help appreciated

this page has some advice. I would get in touch with your local council to see what regulations they may have. Maybe email this bloke http://www.fraserdoherty.com/ . he started Superjam when he was a teenager and may have some pointers for your daughter.0 -
She's going to need a hygiene certificate, some public indemnity insurance (this is cheaper if she's a member of the Federation of Small Businesses - and they will give loads of advice about setting up so it's worth the membership). You will also have to register with the local council, and they'll have the right to inspect your kitchen at any time they choose to.

It would be worth asking your local council - they probably get asked about this fairly often.
Also, do you have any local groups like the Women's Institute who have stalls at local markets - it could be worth your daughter joining to share their experience and sell her stuff through their stall.0 -
Wow thanks for all the useful advice. It looks like it would be more hassle than its worth. She only planned to sell a couple of times a year but if she has to pay out for insurance etc her profit will evaporate!0
