Wedding Services - prices and value?

I am interested in what services you are having at your weddings, and how much they are costing you. For example, hog roast, sweet buffet, chair covers and sashes, planners etc. ( with the number of guests too)

I am also interested in which services you would have liked but which were too expensive, or if you are already married which services did you think were a waste of money, and which were worth every penny. I would appreciate you taking time to post answers :) If you don't want to post your prices on the thread then please feel free to PM me, :)

Thank you xx

  • We are having:

    Magician (90 mins): £150
    Dj (large rig, some uplighters, an evening photographer and photo booth): £400

    Have not decided on a car yet and my cousin is a wedding services lady so all the dec's are being done for free. I have friends who are florists and photographers so getting mates rates for that.

    Hi

    Things iv already booked is ..

    *Hog roast for night (with the venue) £800 which I think is a rip off
    * Photobooth £350 - 3 hours & unlimited photos- I think is good value
    * Harpist (6ft harp not small fork harp) £350 for ceremony and drinks. I think is a lot for the money but overall is worth it as best harpist around
    * band & dj £825 - £650 for band and £175 for dj. Decentish value
    *photographer £1000. Having seen the pics they are worth it but overall think it's expensive , but again having seen previous cheaper togs pic, you get why charge so much
    * videographer a £1600 - again same as above.

    What id like but think is too much

    * starlit dancefloor £250-£400 lovely thought but unjustified amount for a dance floor!
    * chocolate fountain -£350 can only get from the venue and I think is expensive
    * fairylight back drop - £200 - £400 again unneeded expense as would only have in ceremony room, send silly a will only be there 1 hour tops, no one is going to remember the ceremony for the fairylight back drop
    * chair covers and bows- £2-£4 each. My reception room has leather Italian chairs so don't need there only in the ceremony room which they have chivalri chairs. Again can't see point of them at £200 for sake of an hour.
    * casino - would have like casino tables during cocktail hour but is £300-£500!
    * fireworks - would have liked fireworks but your looking at £600+!!

    Hope iv read your post right and answered what you need

    Of course you can Duchy, I am doing some research into what people most want at their weddings, and things which people wish they hadn't had in order to put together a selection of Wedding Packages for a venue which has lost its way regarding weddings and events and has asked me for a bit of advice. By asking on here it helps to avoid brides paying for things they don't really want and it also gives an idea of the average prices people think is acceptable to pay or is too expensive. My aim is to create the ideal package for a good price.
    Would you like to add any of your must haves or wish you didn't haves? xx

    I have found it very difficult to find venues that will allow self-catering. The prices quoted even for just an evening buffet are so much more expensive than it would be if we did it ourselves.

    I'm not sure if that is the sort of thing you are looking for, but lack of self-catering options made us discount an awful lot of venues outright.

    Even if somewhere did a very basic buffet/nibbles for a couple of pound a head that would be better than the £7 a head minimum we have found so far.

    It would have been more useful for you to say this up front. Then we'd know what your purpose was. And perhaps decide what to mention/not mention

    I am simply asking what brides feel made their day, and what was a waste of money, I aren't touting for business, I haven't even said which part of the country I am in, I have simply asked so that future brides don't feel they are being pushed into having things they don't want just because they are part of a package. Its quite straight forward really, and its the sort of question which lots of brides would ask themselves.
