" He has four kids and he's been in the same employment for about 5-7 years."

The cousin has 4 kids SO WHAT ?
He has been working for the same employer for the last 5-7 years and only earns £18K a year.
The Child benefits rates are £20.50 for the oldest child and £13.55 for any other kids per week and kids cost a lot more than that.

They will receive WTC to help with the low income they receive from work and this will be more than the CB!
  • Thanks to everyone who has tried to help. I'm utterly appalled at the way people become nasty, just because he has a certain amount of kids. For god's sake he's a working man with a severe disability who's trying to get on with his life...what he's entitled to is down to the government and not him. As for the amount of his salary...that again is down to the region/city he lives in and believe me £18k is a good salary for his area.

Please get off your high horse and instead of hatred, try to fit in his shoes and understand his situation before jumping to nasty and vile conclusions.

Fair play to him, at least he is holding down a steady job under not ideal circumstances. :T

A lot in that situation would just milk the benefits.
  • Thanks for your understanding deejaybee. Yes there are people that milk the benefits, but he's not one of them and considering he has a disability and still working, I applaud the man for trying his best and I hate it when people suddenly become judgemental of others without looking at their circumstances.

Anyway if there is anymore info or help for him, please do share as it would be most gratefully appreciated.

    Thank you
  • This type of response is becoming common I'm afraid.
  • Yes, I've notice Missu and it is very unfortunate as this forum used to be there to help people in need and with money issues, but instead it's become a bully ground for some to pick on anyone who claims benefits or has more than an X amount of children...EVEN IF THEY ARE WORKING!

I would much rather see benefits being used to top up low earners rather than subsidise someone who wants sit on their ar*e all day doing absolutely nothing for their benefits.
Fair play to the man, at least he working. Personally I am quite happy for my taxes to subsidise someone like this.
  • That's the kind of attitude we need to see shortchanged. People don't choose to have low salaries, but it's dependent on many factors such as their circumstances, work experience, education, region etc. Just think that people should consider these factors before jumping to ridiculous conclusions.

Im not intending on getting into an argument, as you can see above I have tried to help without judging (and im still not judging - Ive been on the dole before now - albeit for around 5-6 months 10 years ago).

But I can understand people getting annoyed at someone receiving £15k in tax credits for someone who has 4 kids. Yes he may be entitled to it, but it doesnt mean it is right (or wrong). People are allowed opinions whether you like them or not.

Exactly. Not everyone is born to be a chief executive or a premiership footballer (not that you wouldn't know it based on some peoples attitudes on here).
I think every worker in this country should get at least a living wage and benefits if needs be to achieve this. However though, to get this they should be working a good number of hours a week e.g at least 26 hours a week.
