Mortgage Arrear Charges

Hi
This is my 2nd post and only joined 5 mins ago !!
I have a mortgage with Salt (Derbyshire Home Loans) under umbrella of Mortgage Works & administered by Nationwide!!
When I got into difficulties with Salt a few years ago I had arrear charges added to my monthly payments. At 1st listed under Arrears Admin £50 and then later headed Arrears Management £25 & Customer Contact £25. ( = £50 !!!) Total charges over the period approx. £3,500 (includes Solicitor's Fees)
2 Questions here
a) Can I ask for these charges back as I read somewhere that if you was in a payment plan to clear arrears they shouldn't charge you arrears fees? (Not 100% sure about this as quite new to this etc)
b) They added the £25 a month Customer Contact fee every month and I know full well they didn't contact me every month only when the repayment plan came to an end after it was set for say 3 or 6 months. How can I prove this though it's only my word against theirs
Sorry to be long winded but once I get up to speed I won't need to ask these basic type questions
Thanks Pam

You can ask but they can refuse. The regulator did a review into mortgage arrears charges and found a few failings in sub prime but not in the prime market. Effectively, it did not say they were unfair but said that they charges had to relate to the service given. i.e. if they said the charge was for doing something then they must do that something.b) They added the £25 a month Customer Contact fee every month and I know full well they didn't contact me every month only when the repayment plan came to an end after it was set for say 3 or 6 months. You raise it as a point and see what happens.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Hi what is the difference between prime and subprime pls
If I raise the point that they didn't contact me they're bound to say they rang/wrote to me. Will they have any records of this?
Thanks Pam0
