Cheap floor covering?

Can anyone recommend any suppliers or ideas? I bought a very cheap offcut from Carpetright as a temporary measure when I moved in 14 years ago, I laid it really badly and there has always been a 2 inch gap at the side near the door so as you can tell, my standards are not high!!! It is now worn, stained, bleached from the sun etc etc so that it's now time for another temporary measure. I have vax-shampooed it within an inch of its life as the dog used to sleep in that room - a clean dog but nevertheless.....but it's now telling me it's had enough.
The original floor is part boards and part chipboard where a bit had to be replaced. If it was all boards I might have sanded and painted them but sadly not and I can't even get away with covering the chipboarded bit with a rug because of its position.
It's the spare room/office so anything will do, usually only me sees it. Any cheap ideas would be really welcome. A friend made a great rug from some reject books of carpets from a posh carpet shop, sewn together, sadly I am not creative and although it looked crafty in her crafty house, with me it would just look a mess and anyway, I'd never get round to doing it.
Help please!
Thanks
Liz

What about carpet tiles? Last week my local B&M had huge stacks of them - iirc £1.99 each. Very easy to fit yourself (well, easier than carpet/lino) so you shouldn't have the 2 inch gap problem again
It all depends on the size of the room as to how expensive it'll be. I think they were 45cm square and they had a turquoise sort of colour, beigey (is that a word??) colour, burgundy, or blue - all with a fleck in them.
edit - if you do go for them, get a couple of spares - just in case of accidents/spillages/cutting c*ck ups!0
