Self Assessment Question

There is a section on the online assessment page that asks if there is any tax outstanding/due from a previous year that is part of your existing tax code. Is this figure picked up from the last tax code notification that I received? At the moment the figure on the online section is defaulted to zero but its asking me if I want to overwrite this.
Many thanks.

You are doing 2013/14 tax return, make sure you look at the last tax code for that year, probably the one on your P60 which you should have received by May 2014.
The answer is usually zero but you should confirm this with the P60
The only thing that is constant is change.

Thanks for this. Its all a bit confusing. I did not complete my 2012/13 tax return until December 2013. At which point I had tax due of about £1k. I got a letter saying that the tax would be recovered through my tax code.It looks like this was done from Jan 14 onwards. But then I am thinking have they recovered all of this outstanding tax?

It's unlikely that you paid £1k over 3 months.
Just enter the amount on the coding notice.
