Feeling a bit low

  • What tintingirl has said above is so true.

I have tried and failed in the past to combat my debt, and the only thing that is working this time round, is the fact that I am managing to put away some small savings to towards four main categories (Car Repairs/Tax - Emergencies - Birthdays - Christmas)

I only do the birthdays and Christmas because I have children. If I didn't then I wouldn't bother with these savings.

My car and hubby van needs MOT's this June just gone and I had managed to save up £700. MOT & repairs came to just over £700. Without that savings pot, I would have had a total panic and given up debt busting.

I always get into debt at Christmas as well, so I am hoping the Christmas savings pot will prevent that.

It is definitely wise to pay a little less on DMP and allow yourself some small savings pots, otherwise it is very hard to stay away from getting more credit.

Well done for sorting out another car. Just like my favourite Dave Ramsey say "live today like no-one else, so tomorrow you can live like no-one else".

In two years time, you can save up some money and buy yourself a nice car. You will get there. xxxx

Thank you both! That is soooo true. I do a Christmas savings club at work so that pays for Christmas and presents. I also closed my credit union account and asked work to up my savings amount each month. So now I'm saving £90 per month! I need to be better at saving for emergencies. Since my LBM I have been super good and managed to half my shopping bill by being a bargain hunter. I love it! Xxx

Thanks! Ja, you are right, but I was just having a whinge. I don't expect a loan. I got myself in a situation that was overwhelming and I sought help. I did withdraw all the money in the credit union account and now have a car. But thank you for pointing that out.

This is why I love coming on here- others will point out where we are going wrong in a good, precise and sharp way. That then helps us to understand why things go wrong! No offence is intended and no offence is taken :)

I got into a lot of financial trouble when my ex left. I made stupid choices and then took control of my life. Last week for the first time since April 2013 I had a rough time on this DMP. On Sunday I wrote to one of my creditors explaining that I am trying to take control of finances again and would they consider stopping the interest and refunding me the interest already paid or use it to offset the debt I owe them. Today I received a call to say the interest has been stopped and they are refunding me £598.74 - interest and charges!!! I've just logged onto the account and the credit is there!!!! I know this is not money that I can withdraw and use but having nearly £600 knocked off the balance makes me feel soooo good. Yes I made bad choices and I don't expect anyone to help me out. But I'm going to be helping myself out of this mess :) :j
