best loan for someone with a default on credit score

I am trying to get a loan to be able to do house decoration, but dont know where to start... I have a good credit history except for a default on my report from 3 years ago... for £35 from a mobile phone company... which I didnt know I had and when found out paid off and complained to company regards to lack of contact and the fact that they shut down the contract and confirmed it in writing but failed to mention the outstanding payment. Anyway it has all been settled and dealt with now except that it has an effect on my credit checks. Does anyone know or recommend a good company that will loan money with this... or know the best way in which I can get round this!

many thanks

A default is going to restrict the number of lenders who will be willing to offer you a loan. And it will also increase the APR you will be offered. As a starting point I'd say approach your own bank and see what they can offer you.

However, do you really NEED a loan to re decorate your house? Can you not just work out the minimum amount you really NEED and save it up?

Do you really need a loan to decorate ?

A couple of tins of paint isn't much.

You could even be lucky and ask on freegle if anyone has any paint going, obviously depends how much you need.

You could have challenged the phone company and requested they remove the default.
