Maggots!

Hey all,

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place, but I am after some advice.

Every summer for the last two or three years we get maggots on the kitchen floor. When we have the warm weather, I often leave the back door open, we have a few flies, then a few days later the maggots come.

I know they are the eggs from the flies, but I wondered if anyone had any tips on how to get rid of them and more importantly how to prevent them.

I have tried keeping the windows and doors shut to keep out the flies, and I use hot water, vinegar and bleach on my floors, but this does not seem to help.

Any advice or tips would be great!

Do you have any pets? In the summer we have to be careful to chuck out any leftover pet food as the flies lay their eggs in it.

An automatic fly spray also helps

Wash the floor more often, sounds like you have quite a lot of spilled food on the floor to attract the flies.

Put up the yellow sticker fly traps.

Have a beautiful vase of Chrysanthemums in the kitchen.
They contain a chemical called pyrentham which naturally repels bugs.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)
  • No, we have not pets and I'm extra careful to put any food waste in the outside bin, which is regularly cleaned as well.

That's great, I will definitely try the Chyrsanthemums tip!

    Thank you both!
