Fitness bands

Has anyone had any experiences with these, good or bad?
I have a samsung phone which i take to the gym or when i am out walking so I can listen to music, and wondered whether a fitband would be a good accessory to go with it.
If I have read right, I would still need to have my phone with me for music, but would have the advantage of a heart rate monitor and sleep monitor on the fit band.
Any advice or opinions?

Avoid the jawbone at all costs - the company i work for bought all members of staff a jawbone (there are around 25 of us) last year (in an effort to increase peoples daily step count ) and every single member of staff has had to return their jawbone back for a replacement - infact a couple of staff are now on their third jawbone (still within warranty) ..
It seems the main issue with the jawbone is that the end of the band (which you use to plug in your phone & then updating the app) seems to disappear into the actual jawbone band. They are the biggest waste of £100 of all time. I wouldnt recommend at all.
Because my jawbone broke i asked if i could get a fitbit instead and IMO they are much better. I have had the fitbit since February and havent had any problems at all - whereas with the jawbone i think it packed in within a couple of months.

I considered one once for abut 5 minutes, but decided that it would be interesting for a few days and then just a boring waste of money.
Some people find them motivating.0 -
I've seen the Sony and the Fitbit bit in use, both seem really good and the apps to track progress to go with them are good too. I am considering one for myself0

Oh, from the title I thought you meant the stretchy resistance band things *blush*

I have a Sony Smartband because it was half price when I got my new phone. It logs steps, travelling time by car/cycle etc and sleep patterns, all very exciting.
Honestly though? I've had approx two months and the novelty has already worn off - I haven't looked at the LifeLog app in ages.
However. It vibrates when I get a text/call which is very useful to me as I'm one of those people who keeps phone in bag on silent and is normally oblivious to people trying to get hold of me. I also make use of the 'silent' alarm, so it vibrates in the morning instead of my phone making any noise, which my other half definitely appreciates. I can start/stop and change tracks on my music aswell without grabbing my phone out of my pocket, which is convenient sometimes but certainly not a game changer.
I probably wouldn't have bought one for full price (£80) but at £40 it was probably worth it. I wouldn't replace it if it broke.0
