Vanquis

Hi,

I've been discharged 6 weeks now and today I applied for a vanquis card and it was approved :j. Obviously I am just going to use the card for small purchases and pay in full every month but I finally feel I am on my way up!

I hope my 31.50 topcashback tracks, that will be the icing on the cake :)

I hope this helps anyone else that is worried about applying

H x

Hi and congratulations, I understand people wanting to jump in to credit again for the sake of building up a new good history. For myself, this is something I am not too sure about, I am not sure I ever want to get credit ever again as I never want to be able to do the damage to myself that I have done.

But if you are sure you can keep on top of it then good for you
  • When I went bankrupt last year I never thought I would ever want credit again! I never want to have a balance and be stuck in the rut of paying minimum payments again but it's great to have options again

It isn't so much I don't want the credit - but what I really want to do is improve my saving still further and save up for things so I never need the credit and therefore don't need a 'choice'. Having an emergency fund (for the first time ever!) and having been forced to buy stuff like car insurance upfront last year has made me save so I have done the same again this year. Its a really nice feeling to think "that's that sorted for another year" rather than keep checking the bank balance to make sure there is enough to cover the DD's...I'm very gradually building up a months rent in advance too.
Ironically, having finally got my internet banking bank - I've barely even looked at it as I've got into the habit of having a running total in my head.
I also discovered a store card from pre-BR that hadn't been used for years that's still active so have made a small purchase on it no problem and intend to use this to help rebuild my CS.
  • These are the credit card company that made me need to go bankrupt!!! Beware
