Confused on mortgage questions!

When getting a Dip from Natwest they ask ' have you been bankrupt in the last 6 years'!

Why do they ask 6 years if they do not accept bankrupts at all? It lets you get a dip but then obviously it would be turned down at full app stage if you have a BR over 6 years old.

Halifax ask 'have you had any CCJ's in last 6 years' but ' have you ever been bankrupt '

You answer yes to the BR question as it says 'ever' but if you look on the intermediaries website ( come across it while researching lending criteria ) it states answer 'no' to the BR question if it is over 6 years old!

How is anyone ever supposed to find out who you might be accepted by!

This is probably due to the credit search showing up a BR or CCJ if less than 6 years. Not sure how they'd find it if it's older.

I've been told their is a search the solicitor does before completion that shows up BR no mater how long ago it was

So if you answered no, it could go through, for a newbuild you pay all your fees & deposit on exchange and then 4 months later when the house is built and you go to complete the solicitor does a check, it comes back yes and your mortgage is stopped and you have lost all your deposit etc. you have answered the question truthfully ( as over 6 years )
So why if they don't accept them at all, why don't they just ask 'ever' and then it can be declined at dip stage rather than at completion!
