Washng pillows

What's the best way to wash pillows without all the inside clogging together and becoming ruined? I bought some lovely pillows but they are not looking their best now with sweat stains and what not plus youngest has had nits so I wold like to wash them but any attempt before resulted in having to throw them away. I don't want to have to throw these out and buy more. Thanks.
