Halifax credit cards

Hi,
HELP PLEASE!!
I have a Halifax credit card. Limit is £1300, balance is £1280. I want to close the account as I can't afford this anymore. I called Halifax today and asked if they would reduce the balance to enable me to pay it and close the account.
I was told this isn't something they can offer at all.
Anyone else been in the same situation?
Thankyou.

If you are meeting the minimum payments as required, they are highly unlikely to offer you a settlement figure. That usually only happens once you have defaulted and been passed over to a Debt Collection Agency.

You either need to chip away at it slowly, paying as much as you can to bring the balance down (and not spending on it obviously) or if you can't afford it then you will have to default (as the previous poster said).
Why do you think they should reduce the balance and close the account (is there some specific reason)?
Also why can't you pay it? Have they recently put the interest rate up (I think if they write and say they are putting the interest rate up then you can close the account and pay it off at the current interest rate (well you certainly used to be able to) but I'm not sure if this will help you?
