Are the files as clean as they can be? Everything marked as satisfied or partially satisfied? Are all the dates correct? e.g. default date cannot be later than the date BR was declared.

The defaults and BR will still be on file today so will cause a decline from the vast majority of banks. Sygma bank (and related cards .. Flybe etc..) seem more lenient than most but although better than most they're not exactly mainstream.

Literally the moment I passed 6 years the other banks liked me again .. Barclaycard, MBNA etc.. the only healer is time.

Bit about never having to declare it sounds extremely unlikely, probably meant that you didn't have to answer yes if you were asked if you were currently BR - you're not the moment you're discharged. If an application asked if you've ever been BR you must answer yes. Especially important for mortgages as the conveyancers are required to do a proper BR search pre-completion and if your lender has a no ex-BR policy (plenty do, regardless of how long ago) you could be in some serious trouble if they pull the funds at the 11th hour.

this is an interesting topic and I have a question about it. Why, if you pay your balance in full does it matter whether the card is mainstream or not? Is it perks or credit limits? This is a genuine question as I am 1 month into BR.
THE LONG AND THE SLOW ROAD SEEM TO APPLY TO DEBTS AND DIETS... THE TWO THINGS I WANT TO SEE THE BACK OF...:D

Although I'm not into the full swing of things re cleaning up my credit files, using fermi's templates, I have written to all of my creditors asking them to amend my credit status. They are beginning to trickle back with confirmation of them (creditors) updating my status to settled or satisfied. I have 8 more creditor files left to update.

It's very confusing as to why some people can get a credit building card literally weeks after AD and I cannot? I have checked via Experian that I am on the electoral register, As suggested earlier, I thought that could of been the problem, but obvisouly not. It's all a bit frustrating being AD, debt free and have a current bank account and not being able to build up my credit score with a credit building card. I was only ever going to put the weekly fuel and shopping on it and pay it off in full at the end of each month.

Ho hum. I 'll just keep trying I suppose! Or just wait 6 years, well, 5 years now for my BR to fall off the edge of the financial cliff I suppose!!

Once files are cleaned you'll get a credit builder card but possibly not before. What's on your file is luck of the draw it seems - some of my defaults were missing, some recorded twice - some people on here don't even have the BR itself show. CRA data is a mess, to put it mildly.

I got a Capital One shortly after the clean up, for whatever reason Vanquis never liked me. Couple of years down the line I got a Flybe (Sygma) card. Don't panic too much about getting new history written, there's plenty of time for that.

Perks for me, the mainstream cards have offers on purchases/BT/extra protection etc.. which the others typically do not.
