The police are not going to be able to prove an offence - and do you really want to face the possibility of a fine of up to £1000? If nobody was injured enough to lose work over than civil recovery is unlikely. If such recovery were attempted it is unlikely to succeed without proof of responsibility for the damage. The lesson is to do what the highway code advises and make sure you can see beyond your stopping distance and ride safely. Don't other the police. Don't lose sleep.
