sick pay

my wife is on ssp from work for severe post natal depression and her work have just told her that instead of gettin her money every week as usual that they are now givin her her money on a fortnightly basis... are they allowed to do this? we have a 7 month baby and need the money every week if poss

    Well, I thought SSP was supposed to be paid in the same way as 'normal' wages, so I'd say this wasn't right, unless they have some explanation for the change?

    Guess it's "administrative convenience" as SSP isn't very much. However, if your wife's contract says she is paid weekly then I would have thought they would need to keep paying on a weekly basis.

    I can't see why the amount would make a difference: surely administratively it's easier to do it at the same time as the rest of the payroll rather than having to work out if it's a week when the OP's wife is being paid or not. Plus when she returns to work there will be no question about whether she's due to be paid or not.

    Unless there's a move across the company to fortnightly pay?

    Anyway, ACAS can probably help, because I'm only using common sense and a historic memory of payroll!
