Engaged

Options
Hi,

We move into our new home next Friday, and have just gotten engaged

Would we need to let our mortgage company/solicitors know? Or would they not care because its not really a change in relationship status?

Thanks!

I'm fairly sure they don't need to know you're engaged.

Yes they will want to know, also a short description on the proposal and a picutre of the ring should be sent. I hope this helps

Congratulations....I don't want to sounds mean but why would they need to know that?
  • Only if you want the solicitor to start work on the prenup agreement !!

Also the mortgage will be far more binding a commitment than the engagement is..

What would be more important is to have clarification on how the house is being owned and held between you, anything to protect an deposits paid by each of you (outside of the 50/50 split), and what maybe expected for selling if you were to separate..

This may not seem to be romantic, but many a thread on here of when things go wrong and there isn't the equity to sell or one party doesn't then want to sell...

    Hi all,

thanks for your help - i understand that they probably dont need to know, but just wasnt sure as the mortgage company told us to let them know for any change or circumstance

StuC75, weve got that all sorted already via the solicitors, thanks though!
