Hi guys,
I imported a golf club from the US to GB. The golf club was $59.19 and the shipping was $40.50, therefore the total cost was $99.69 or £58.35. I understand that I don't have to pay import duty as the value is too low. So the only charge should be VAT at 20% equal to £11.67. However I have been charged £14.62 VAT. (As well as UPS' hefty brokerage charge at £11 that I was unaware of prior to the order). Can anyone explain the extra £2.95 VAT? And if everything else I have said/paid is correct?
Thanks,
Tom

vat on the ups fee ?0

The receipt was itemized and that didn't seem to be the case. Also 20% of £58.35 + £11 is £13.87 so that still doesn't add up...0

Sometimes the vat element is charged on a different shipping value.
Your shipping may be subsidised.
Reason i know this is when Digikey used to make tou pay vat to the UPS man their carriage was Free on orders over £50.
Clearly the carriage is not really free.
I did think UPS had stopped charging fees.0 -
what is the custom declaration amount? VAT is charged on that amount.
If it is not correct you can dispute the amount and get a refund if appropriate.0
