Natwest proof of identity

Hello

I have applied for a mortgage with Natwest via L&C.

I am not on the electoral roll, Natwest therefore require proof of identity.

L&C have said I need to send a 'tax coding notice' which I have asked for a copy from HMRC.

L&C have told me I can't send my passport/driving license because they don't know what I look like!

However I've had a look at http://intermediary.natwest.com/Downloads/natwest/NW_MortAppForm.pdf which indicates a certified copy of a passport is acceptable for ID.

Is this the case and are L&C being unreasonable?

(They have been ok up to this point, getting hold of the mortgage adviser no problem, but getting hold of the case manager is something else!)

Thanks

A *certified* copy of your passport shouldn't be an issue at all in my opinion. Wonder why L&C think it would be.
  • Thanks, I wondering if I was just being stupid.

I can understand why a original passport is useless because they don't know me from jack.

However a certified copy has not been suggested, I thought the broker is meant to help and answer questions! Instead I'm doing it myself
  • Agree with the above. I'm a solicitor and if I was asked to certify something that means I've met the person and seen the originals. Assuming your face matches your picture on your passport I don't see the issue with a certified copy...

    Natwest packaging guide states:

Documents carrying a photograph can be certified only if you have met the client face-to-face and should be certified with the words "True likeness of applicant".

  • Thanks GMS - I've had a look at the Post Office certification service.

They use the words "‘this copy is a true likeness of the original" surely that should be acceptable?!
  • Still being told today a certified copy of my passport is not suitable

When I prove my ID at an airport I use a passport - not a blooming 'tax coding notice'!!!!
  • How about going into a Natwest branch and getting the branch staff to certify it for you ?

The post office wording is only saying that they have signed a copy of an original passport - it doesn't say that the picture is you.
  • Thanks - certainly worth a try.
